Secondary School of Mem Martins (ESMM) is a public education institution with Secondary Education and Basic Education, it was established on October 1983.

ESMM is situated in Mem Martins just 6km from Sintra, classified as a world heritage and 35km from Lisbon, Portugal’s capital.

The school has about 135 teachers and 1500 students. The distribution of students by level of education is:

  • Basic Education (7th, 8th and 9th grade) about 270 students;
  • Secondary Education (10th, 11th and 12th grade) about 1030 students spread over Visual Arts, Economic Sciences, Sciences and Technologies and Languages ​​and Humanities.
  • Vocational Education about 200 students distributed in Chemical Analysis, Graphic Design, Information Technology and Secretariat.

The school has a significant number of students of foreign origin (over 20 nationalities), principally from the Official Portuguese-Speaking African Countries, PALOP’s (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe), Brazil, Asia and Eastern countries and representing 12% of the school population.

The project leader in ESMM is Ana Brázio, teacher of Physics and Chemistry since 1988 until now (26 years), Assistant of the Executive Directors from 2005 to 2012.
